Nativ Bicento 2018, Irpinia Campi Taurasini, Campania D.O.C., Italy: From Campania, Nativ Bicento 2018 is a dry, medium-plus bodied, vibrant 100% Aglianico from grapes sourced from ungrafted vines in volcanic soils from a two-hundred-year-old vineyard (Bicento means twice 100). A stylish Aglianico with fresh dark plum, chocolate, red currant, earthy and spicy flavours ending on a mineral note. The wine was aged in new French oak barriques for up to 18 months. Poças Reserva Red 2018, Douro D.O.P., Portugal: Poças Reserva red blend (2018) is produced from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca grapes that were hand-harvested from high-altitude vineyards south of the Douro. Dry, full-bodied and generous with ripe dark fruits, dark cherry, savoury herbs and toasty oak spice flavours rich and concentrated on the palate with a lip-smacking dark plum finish. Montes Outer Limits Syrah 2021, Zapallar, Aconcagua Costa D.O., Chile: From Chile's Aconcagua Costa wine region, the grapes for Montes Outer Limits 2021 Syrah are sourced from the granite-clay soils in the Zapallar zone of the Coastal Mountains, about 13 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean. The grapes here enjoy sunny, warm days with cooling breezes and cooler nights maintaining the grapes' acidity and giving the wine fresh, fruity flavours of bright cherry, blueberry, cracked pepper, fine herbs zesty and intense on the palate. Geoff Merrill G&W Cabernet Sauvignon 2014, Mclaren Vale Coonawarra, South Australia, Australia: Geoff Merrill G&W 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is terrific value at $30. Grapes were sourced from the McLaren Vale and Coonawarra wines regions (73%/27%). The wine is powerful but elegant and so expressive with cassis, dark cherry, cedar brush and dried tobacco leaf flavours savoury and long with a dark olive and meaty finish. Blomidon Cuvée L'Acadie Brut Sparkling, Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, Canada: From the Annapolis Valley wine region in Nova Scotia, Blomidon Sparkling Cuvée L'acadie is made in the traditional method from 100% estate grown L'acadie. A dry, tasty and expressive bubble with a fine, flavoursome mousse of bright apple, hay, citrus zest and butternut flavours toasty and vibrant on the palate. About 70% of the wine came from the 2017 with 2016 vintage with a dollop from the 2015 vintage. Dosage was 6 g/L. and the wine was disgorged in March 2020. Kew Marsanne 2019, Beamsville Bench, Niagara Escarpment, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: Kew 2019 Marsanne is a rich, dry, and mouth-filling white wine blend of Marsanne with a splash of Viognier added to the mix. From the Niagara Escarpment wine region in Ontario, it is amazing value at $20. Look for ripe stone fruit, pear, tropical fruit notes, soft orange zest, soft spices, nutty and mineral flavours fresh and rounded on the palate. Marsanne originates from the Rhône Valley wine region in France, but Kew planted their Marsanne 16 years ago on the Beamsville Bench and what a good idea that was! Mahi Sauvignon Blanc 2022, Marlborough, South Island, New Zealand: From Marlborough, South Island, Mahi 2022 Sauvignon Blanc is silky smooth with gooseberry, lemongrass, tropical fruit notes and lime-lemon zest flavours fresh and lingering on the palate. Extremely moreish ;) The Sauvignon Blanc wine grapes for this vintage were sourced from several vineyards and were partially fermented with wild yeasts, a portion of which was in barrel.
