Reviews and Ratings
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review: Back up the truck! This beauty is going to go quick. A blend of Garnacha (Grenache) and Syrah, which is sure to please. Deep ruby red, rich chocolate, dark berries, baking spice, and smoky oak. The palate is lush and layered. Sweet dark fruit, spice, and tobacco leaf lead to a lengthy black cherry finish. Enjoy with BBQ fare, including ribs, pulled pork, or gourmet burgers. Tasted June 2015. 90+ points. Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review: A very nice medium-bodied Spanish blend of mostly Garnacha with a splash of Syrah; aged 14 months in French oak bordelaise. Dark and rich ruby red colour with aromas and flavours of dark fruit, blueberry, dried fruit, smoke, black pepper, toast and oak. 15% abv but doesn't taste hot. Lingering raspberry and cherry finish. Tannins are polishing and acidity is medium+ and cleansing. Great value at $17. This could be your summer red. Tasted: June 2015
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: Enjoy the 2011 vintage of Borsao Berola which is 15.0% ABV and aged 14 months in French oak Bordelaise barrels after stainless fermentation in Spain. This wine is produced from a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon fruit. Wonderfully well-balanced, integrated aromatics of ripe red berry, cherry, mocha and complex phenolics. Enjoy 2015 -2020.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: Made from mainly indigenous Garnacha and a small percentage of Syrah, aged in French Bordelaise oak barrels for 14 mos. A dark garnet red, with a nose of ripe cherries, vanilla, and subtle oak. The rich, complex palate gives lots of ripe cherries, vanilla, baking spices and zippy pepper, with slight herbal touches and oak. Very dry with a tannic mouthfeel and a long spicy cherry finish.
Brian Gray Hamilton rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: The nose presents incense, cedar, tobacco and mint. Palette has medium+ acidity, medium tannin and a refreshing juicy/gulpable texture and medium + finish. Great value quaff.
The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 14 months. Berola is the original name of the Monastery of Veruela dating back to the 12th century and was run by the Cistercian monks. This Spanish red wine is a blend of 70% Garnacha, 20% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks then matured in French and American oak barrels for ten months. - Community Wine Reviews
